Eric Bishop
We lost a friend in adventure racing last week. Eric Bishop passed away the evening before Thanksgiving. Among many things Eric did was co-own Dynamik Adventures - which held ropes clinics, 24 Hours on the Move, and a few other adventure races and activities.
Eric, of Lafayette, was the mastermind behind the ropes events at the MISSION Adventure Race. Eric’s influence on the MISSION went further than the ropes; many of my concepts for the race were taken from 24 Hours on the Move.
Hearing the news about Eric, at age 52, was quite a surprise. He had a problem with his aorta and underwent a long surgery on Wednesday. It is speculated that the aorta was damaged by an auto accident he suffered about two weeks ago.
Much of Eric’s knowledge of rope work came from his military experience. Eric will be missed by many in the adventure racing community as well as participants in the varied activities he enjoyed such as rowing and ballroom dancing. A memorial service is being planned (Dec. 10?) - I will try to post here if I hear details.
